Currently I am taking 5 to 6 insulin shots a day. Two long lasting to keep my baseline blood sugars down. Three to four for when my sugars will spike, with meals and snacks. Although my needles are very small, I find it very hard to work up the courage to give myself a shot. I absolutely hate needles!
I give one short-lasting shot each time my blood sugar would spike, like a meal or snack, and I usually have to throw an extra one in there for when I miscalculate how many carbohydrates are in my meal. At least that is what I am supposed to be doing. (did I mention I hate needles?)
Because of insulin resistance, my fasting blood glucose levels run around 220 (without insulin). A normal level would be under 125. I use long lasting insulin, in a split dose once in the morning and once in the evening.
