Recovering

Hi everyone! It has been a while since I last posted and so much has gone on. I warn you I am quite out of it, doped up on pain pills right now. Thursday afternoon I had my first ever sinus surgery to fix my severe chronic sinusitis. I think the surgery went well. Doc cleaned out my sinuses and I think he did some things to help them drain better. Doc also fixed my severely deviated septum, which was causing me to get chronic sinus infections (which would end up causing lung infections) in my right side. I went into this surgery quite ignorant because I didn’t want to worry about the details about what was going to happen to me. So I can’t really tell you what happened.

Funny how things work, my right side is feeling good now, just a little cruddy, but my left side is a whole different story! It feels completely blocked up and hurts bad. It’s also causing my teeth to hurt a lot. The pain pills help, but they make me quite loopy but tired.

I miss my little puppy sooo much! I hope he is having fun at his grandma’s. :) By the way, mom is doing much better after her surgery a few weeks ago. Thanks for all the positive thoughts sent her way, I think they helped! It has been a tough few months for the family. Little Brodie puppy was jealous of all the attention the rest of us were getting and had to go and get sick himself! Silly little pup got an infection in his paw, which was made worse by all the licking he did. Now he needs his paw shampooed and soaked for 15 minutes a day, which I can’t do since I have a 10 lb weight restriction (he’s 11 lbs) and I can’t bend, lift, or do anything strenuous (like wrastle with Bro) for at least two weeks. :( He will be staying at grandma’s for that time. :( I miss my little buddy.

Also…. I have some SUPER news! I wasn’t going to tell you until I had it in my hands, and now I have it (part of it), I can tell you! :D My insurance approved my appeal for my insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor!!!! We are still having issues with them paying though. The medical supply company has sent me the insulin pump, which I have now in my hands (I couldn’t be more excited!). The amount they are paying is still in debate. Except for the CGMS. For some reason, even though they approved it, agreed it is medically necessary, they are not putting out a penny for it. The medical supply company is not going to send it to me until they get a financial agreement with the insurance, and I have a feeling it is going to be ANOTHER fight. I just don’t understand.

Right now I am not going to worry about it. I have more important things to deal with, like healing my face. My nose, and the rest of my face is really swollen and hurts. I can feel my nose is broken (they had to do that to fix my septum), but over all, I think I am doing ok. I am still fighting a lung infection and hope to be able to do some more therapy tomorrow. Quite dizzy and loopy, and have my ups and downs of feeling ok, but little by little I am going better. Dad has been helping me out, but he has a cold. I am really scared I am going to get it, that is not what I need right now. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Maybe tomorrow I will venture outside and get some fresh air by sitting on my front porch.

  1. You’ll feel so much better in a week from that surgery. I’ve had 6 (or is it 7?) and I think we’re done for good now.

Congrats on the approval. That’s got to be a big stress relief. Now to get it to happen.

  3. Hey Aspen,
We’ve been keeping track of your progress (and temporary set backs) from Arizona! Jessie (our CF/CFRD family member) has had to have the sinus surgery 2x. Since I, (her dad) seem to mirror many of her symptoms, I also had to have sinus surgery. And they had to repair my deviated septum which caused chronic sinus infections! The surgery made a significant difference for both Jessie and I. The post surgery pain and discomfort was a “bite” but the end result was great!
Excellent news that your insurance company is starting to get a “clue”! Hopefully they’ll knock off their bureaucratic BS and get you the rest of the equipment/care you have MORE than paid for.
Know that you are always in our thoughts and prayers as we relate to much of your struggle. We are here if you need us (for real!)
    Special Blessings,
    Dean
