My Blackberry

How on earth did a Crackberry help me in gaining control of my diabetes?  Yea it sounds strange, but I was always out of luck when I was out and about and I was hungry.  I admit I have a horrible memory and am horrible with remembering how many carbs are in foods but now [...]

The evil high fructose corn syrup

Before I moved in with mom I had nearly eliminated high fructose corn syrup from my diet at the suggestion of my doctor.  At first I didn’t believe that it would make me feel better, but I am sure that was just my resistance to change and convenience.  This is difficult to do, but it [...]

My insulin pump

This tool is priceless for people (with CFRD) with the crazy nutritional needs of CF.  When I sit down to eat, I never know how much I will eat because my tummy is so moody.  I can bolus a conservative amount of insulin at the beginning of the meal and if I happen to eat [...]

Gaining control

Thanks everyone who pitched in and helped me purchase my insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor.  I, for the very first time since being diagnosed with CF related diabetes, have my blood glucose levels under control!!!  What this means is I am at a much much reduced risk of the complications of diabetes such as [...]

Checking in

Well, it has been quite a while since I have posted.  Here I thought I would have all the time in the world while I was unemployed to work on my blog, but I was soooo wrong!
This coming Monday I will be starting my new job, working with pulmonary research data at a [...]

Laid off

A lot of speculation has come about with my recent lay off.
It is quite a coincidence of how I was on IVs for three weeks twice (still went to work, with exception to the week I was IN the hospital), sinus surgery (one week out of work), insulin pump training class, along with all the [...]

What a load of $#!t!

Hmmmmm…. so after 6 months of fighting, and FINALLY winning “approval” for my continuous glucose monitor from GreatWest health insurance, they are refusing to pay! What the #3!!?!
I have no idea except to call a lawyer about this one. How on earth can they approve the device, agree it is medically necessary, but [...]

Happy Father’s day! (belated)

Yesterday, Sunday, (ok, it took me a few days to post this :)) I took my pop to the Taste of Fort Collins where we saw one of my most favorite musicians preform. Angie Stevens! with her band The Beautiful Wreck (what a kick ar$e name!). Angie holds the honor of Best Singer/Songwriter by [...]

Remembering diabetes

I am finding the hardest part of diabetes is ‘remembering’.
I have to remember to check my blood glucose levels:
when I wake up
before every meal
two hours after every meal
before bed
sometimes before driving
sometimes before/after snacks
sometimes at 3 am to make sure I am not sinking into oblivion
every time I turn around
I have to remember to make sure [...]

Big oops!

So I thought I had been doing really well with my new high-fructose free diet. (cue the music… bum bum bummmm)…. until this morning. I never thought to read the lable of my yogurt container, it’s yogurt, it should be good for you! But turns out I was waaay wrong! My [...]
